Garryphilip meaning the Garden of Philip got its name from a man called Philip who lived near Ardcroney.
He had a garden of which he was very proud. He was always boasting to his neighbours that no one had a garden so prosperous as his.
Each year he used make plenty of money on his fruit and everyone envied him.
One year the fruit got bad and he got no sale for it, and next year it was worse till finally it was barren and of no use.
Then all the people made fun of him and called it Philips Garden or Garryphilip. This is how it got its name.
