- (continued from previous page)Joseph Birney practised a custom of plucking which was probably a cruel practice. He plucked geese and they alive having only down on them. They grew new feathers and he took away the "pluckings".
Rags are now collected by a woman called Mrs Connors who is a descendant of the Birneys. - A penny is sometimes called a "make" or a "brown."
A threepenny bit is called a "Kids eye".
A sixpence is called "a tanner."
A shilling is called "a bob".
A crown is called "a horseman."
Fourpenny pieces are gone out of use as well as farthings and one very seldom sees a crown and less seldom a four shilling piece.
