  1. St Senan is the patron saint of Inis Chathaigh, and it is still a custom on the island to have the name Sinon given to one member of each family. St. Senan's mother's name was Comgella, and his father's name was Erean.
    He was born in Mullougha, a place about four miles east of the town of Kilrush. In that district, a flat stone marks the spot where, according to tradition, St Senan was born, and in the vicinity are a lake and the ruins of a church and oratory which still bear his name.
    While still young, he was placed under Cassidus, a holy man, who was a native of Kerricurrihy,
