the famine times. It was handpaved. There is said to be a prophesy connected with the Drumnatrade road. It is said to be a piece of Colmcilles prophesy but it is more likely that it was foretold by a local prophet. It is said that the black pigs would go up Drumnatrade road ankle deep in blood and that they would scarecely be able to walk past the old kiln through the blood The black pigs (i.e. the Protestants) would try to overthrow the Catholics and every house would be knocked down. The man who would knock down his house and hide it its ruins was to be the safest man When the "black pigs" would come to Monalty a shower of stones would come on them and overthrow them all.
The Lappan pass was made about the year nineteen hundred by the locals. The pass now known as Mac Cauleys pass was made by the locals during the famine. If a person from this district wanted to go to Carrickkallen mass without going through fields he would have to go a very far distance off his path. On this account the pass was made mostly from the accommodation of the Mass goers Motors and carts go by this pass also because if going by another road there would at least be mile in the difference
