    the field or haggard. These pits are dug about one foot in the ground, and as long as required. They are about four feet wide and four feet high when covered with straw and clay.
    The chief potatoes grown in our district are Kerr's Pinks, Champions, Arran Victors, Arran Chiefs, Arran Banners and Crests. Of these Kerr's Pinks and Champions are the most favoured.
