  1. There are many signs and sayings of the weather. The sign of rain is darkness; the sign of frost is glittering stars; and the sign of snow is cold short wind.
    There is a saying about every month of the year. When oak trees bend with snow in January good crops may be expected. "Candlemas day bright and clear leaves two winters in the one year", If March goes in like a lion it goes out like a lamb. A wet March makes a bad harvest. If it thunder's on all Fools day it brings good crops of corn and hay. A swarm of bees in May is worth a load of hay. If June is sunny it brings an early harvest. In July the cuckoo flies away. If foxes bark in October you will have a big fall of snow. If there is ice in November that would bear a duck you will have nothing but slug and muck. A green Christmas makes a fat grave-yard.
