  1. Long ago the old people had cures for all sorts of diseases.
    The cure for warts is to rub a black snail over them and hang it on a bush. Another cure is to buy them or rub Holy Water on them for nine mornings, or rub castor oil on them.
    The cure for the whooping cough is to put ferret's leavings and brown sugar on the sick person's tea.
    The cure for the mumps is to put the ass's winkers on the child and to lead him around the pig-sty.
    The cure for boils is a poultice of brown sugar, soap and loaf-bread.
    The cure for a sty on the eye is to pull ten gooseberry thorns and point nine of them at it and bury the tenth.
    The cure for the ring-worm is to rub a gold ring all around the wound and it would get better.
