  2. Long ago houses were more numerous in the townland of Carrickabawn than they are now. Eleven houses existed when my father was young and only seven are in it now. They were small mud-wall thatched houses. The remains of one small stone-built thatched house can still be seen. It contained two rooms and a kitchen. The family of one of the houses that disappeared now live in a Labourer's Cottage in the adjoining townland Clarboy. The families of the other houses have died out.
