  1. In olden times people lived on a very rough diet, compared to what we live on nowadays.
    The bread they used was consisted of boiled potatoes mashed up, with raw potatoes grated and all mixed together. The people went to a mill that was in our townland and had as much meal ground as did them each day.
    The bread they chiefly lived in was boxty potatobread and oaten bread. All the bread was made daily. A cross was put on the cake to keep the crust from turning up at the edges.
    The heart stone was swept clean and the cake laid on it, a large pot was turned mouth downwards on it and the turf coals built all around it.
