  1. We have a churn at home and it is made of rustless steel. This steel is imported from Sweden and is much used now adays for making dairy utensils.
    Our churn is two feet high and is bowl shaped.
    It is worked by turning a handle ad two steel plates revolve inside. My father bought it about six years ago. We churn twice a week in Winter and three times in Summer. If a stranger comes in while we are churning he always takes a "brash" as a period of churning is called. If he does not do this it is considered unlucky and he is supposed to take the butter with him. The churning takes about half an hour in summer, and forty five minutes in Winter. The butter comes to the top when it is done. It is then lifted out and washed thoroughly in clean cold water. Salt is added and then it is made up into "meiscins" rolls or prints.
