    The song
    One evening in December,
    As I strode down the hill,
    I heard Chau say to Billy,
    It is time you would make your will.
    I hear you are a lunatic,
    And of you I am afraid,
    I will have you executed,
    Before you eat another blade,

    Billy then made answer,
    And in a mournful tone,
    "You have me in my stockings",
    Since you brought Lily home,
    I worked for all the neighbours,
    And hard shifts I did endure,
    Since Lily came to Derrynananta,
    My feeding it was poor.
