  1. Sprained ankle: Some of us think that a sprained ankle is a terrible calamity, and that it cannot be cured only by doctors. Old people think this a silly idea, because they have two very good cures: one is the use of marshmallow, which is a herb that grows wild in the fields and woods.
    It is boiled down, then made into a poultice, then applied several times to the injured ankle.
    The other remedy is putting the ankle under flowing cold water.
