    from the upper Mill to the lower one. The ice was so thick & hard that numbers of people came from all over to slide upon it. The mills had to be closed as there was no water to work them.
    At the slip there was a small round hole from which the people got water. When the ice began to melt a young girl had a narrow escape from drowning. It was difficult to rescue her as the ice kept breaking away when the young men went to her assistance.
