In my district the boys play conkers by getting a big chesnut and putting a hole through the centre and put a piece of string about two feet long with a knot on one end through the hole and swing the chesnut at another boys chesnut and see whose chesnut would be broken first. This game is played about September. A good way to have a strong chesnut is to store it away in some dry place for a year.
