    although not afraid yet the hair stood on his head with the fright.
    He could do nothing only walk slowly along and the hound began frisking and jumping around him. The man began saying "poor fellow" "poor Jess" and continued calling the hound all names of dogs he could think. Friendly and more friendly the hound became, leaping with joy. At last the man said "poor spring." With this the hound yelped and leaped with joy. Then it was that the man knew a neighbour of his had a hound called "spring" and so the Scortheen ghost was cleared up.
