    The best man to compete in weight throwing is William Fleury, Killyon, Birr. He can throw a half hundred weight, twenty five feet six inches.
    Jim Horan, Douris, Eglish, Birr, about fifteen years ago was the Irish champion flat race runner.
    William Wallace, Castletown, Birr, about fifty years ago used to walk to and from Dublin a distance of about 84 miles in two days and two nights.
    John Horan, Knockshegowna, was the champion high jumper about eight years ago. He could jump 6 feet 4 ins.
