    There are old tombs in Finglas, Balintemple and Ballycormack. A legend mentions a chalice hidden in Finglas and underground passages.
    Many of the crosses are decorated with little birds and animals. There are wooden crosses in Cullenwaine. Some inscriptions go back 1821 and 1833 but older tombstones have fallen. In some of these graveyards there are ruins standing; but none of them in any decent state of repair.

  2. Bread was made from wheat, oats, and corn generally. All this grain was grown locally. Flour is now ground at the mills. In Roscrea there is a flour mill at the Mt. St. Joseph monastery.
    There were three kinds of bread generally used. Boxty bread, Griddle Cake, and Potato cake.
    Boxty Bread:-
    Wash potatoes. Grate them raw. Squeeze them tightly through a muslin cloth to remove the starch. Mix this with raw potatoes. Add a little flour and salt. Knead and roll and
