    57. Marriage Customs - (1) "Sounding" ia carried on in this district when there is any contempt for the pair to be married, as in case of an old couple. "Sounding" is the blowing of horns & bugles or through bottles at night. This is done where it may be heard by either of the parties. It is considered an insult to be sounded.
    (2) Tying an old boot or shoe to the back of the car, unknown to the couple, for luck.
    (3) Throwing rice at them after the marriage ceremony.

    (1) To cure a birthmark - at a wake to make the Sign of the Cross with the hand of the corpse with the birthmark.
