    Ferns Castle
Ferns Castle stands on the site of the fortress of the Kings of Leinster. Its erection has been attributed to Strongbow, King John, and Maurice Fitzgerald. It is called after Dermot Mac Morrogh and he is said to have died there in 1171
It was for a long time the residence of the Bishops of the Diocese.
One of the Round Towers is still in good preservation and the beautiful kings chapel. There is said to be an underground passage from it to the Abbey. It is now owned by the Donovan family of Ballymore. It is supposed to have been besieged by Cromwell
