  2. (3) About four miles from Athy in the Co. Kildare there is a fairy fort which is called the rath of Mullaghmast. This rath is surrounded by a gripe and there is only one entrance. This rath is said to be guarded by fairies.
    When Rory O'Moore and his men went to attend a meeting in the rath with the English they were all slaughtered and you can still see the shore where the blood of the Irish ran in to. There is a tunnel under this rath which runs under the gripe and opens into a field and it was the way the Irish went when they met their deaths.
