- 208Old HousesVery few of the houses long ago were slated, they were all thatched. The thatch was oaten straw and wheaten straw. The old floors were made of clay and flagstones. Bushes and Bochauns were burned in the fires.
Little lamps on the hob with no glass on them were used for light and candles which they made themselves.
