  1. The names of landlords in this district were James Byrne who lived at the cross of Burkstown; Mr Haughton who lived in Killmanagh; Mr Colclough who lived in Tintern; Mr Leigh who lived in Rosegarland.
Mr Byrne was called "Jimmy the wig" because he wore a wig and wigs were very scarce that time
There was a verse made up about him after his death it is
O Jimmy t'was bad from the cradle
The devil first taught you to lisp
You were shut out from Hell and from Heaven
To ramble with Will o' the wisp.
He was a Catholic Landlord but was bad to the tenants. He evicted several families for not paying the rent. The people who were evicted built little huts in the bog and lived there until they got back the land again.
Haughton was a good Landlord. He never evicted anyone. But the farmers used to have to go to help him in the Harvest. He had an agent in Rathimney named Wall.
He was a bad man. Colcloughs were good landlords too.
The people used to have to dress in rags going to pay the rent for fear the rent would be increased.
