another school by the side of the road in Kinnagh. A great-grand-uncle of mine named Caulfield went to school to that priest who taught in the underground school, and was ordained a priest at Salamanca in Spain, and became a Bishop afterwards. A tunnel about two hundred yards long led to the school, some of it can be seen to the present day.
Once upon a time John Colclough was on the run and a farmer hid him in a cave on the Saltees.
The British soldiers went to the farmer and asked him where he was, but he did not tell them. But the soldiers got him in the cave afterwards and he was beheaded. His head was dropped into the river Slaney
Afterwards a skull was found on the strand of the Slaney, and it is thought that it was the skull of John Colclough. So that was the end of him.
