Ar an leathanach seo

  1. There are two blessed wells in this parish. They are Saint Brigid's well and Saint Mel's. Saint Brigid's well is situated in a field of O'Reilly's about half a mile from the village of Ardagh. Saint Mel's well is situated in a field in Aughnamacla. People go to Saint Brigids well to get cured of any disease they have. When they go to the well to get cured they must kneel down and say three Hail Mary's and a Glory be to the Father to Saint Brigid to ask God to cure the disease. Then they put some water on the sore or whatever disease they have. Before they leave the well they are supposed to leave a piece of a string or a piece of cloth on the bushes round the well. People do not use the water out of the well or wash clothes in it. It was said that one time a woman washed clothes in the well and the next morning the well was moved to another corner of the field. Some people say that when Saint Brigid carried the coals in her apron that it was there she left them down and the well sprung up. Some people bring moss from the well. One time there was a woman and she always had very sore eyes. She got moss out of the well and put it to her eyes. After some time her eyes got better. Some people say that it is on the 1st of February Saint Brigids day that people should
