    to fall back on The potatoes were stricken down with blight. The old people around here tell us that women in their draugad petticoats were to be seen in the fields around Moyne rooting and picking for hours to get one little gallon full. Very well the day came when they could not even get one gallon full and old Paddy McGuinness says that on an average six coffins went to the graveyard every day - death from hunger. Fever set in. Old Rose Corcoran of Moyne used to tell that three and four were often lying sick with fever in one house, without one to give them a drink of water.
