- We have many domestic animals at home such as 2 cows 2 calves 3 pigs, a sow and 9 bonhams; a donkey, 2 goats and a dog and two cats. One of the cows has a name the horney cow, she is so called because she is a kind of Kerry cow and has long white horns. The cows will come for the name "Drugg" and will run after you for feeding, and the calves will run to you when you call suck, suck; as they think you have feeding for them. When the calves are young, for three weeks we put a Gubban an old porringer with holes on it on their snout, in order to keep them from picking up wisps of hay or straw, and to prevent them from sucking the cows. We must put our fingers in their mouths when giving them a drink at first. The house in which we keep our cows in is called a byre, there are stakes in it, which are tied to a beam over head and then a manger for holding the hay. The cows are tied to the stake with a chain or spanchel, There is a "gad" with a "swivel" on it around the(continues on next page)
