Some neighbours and friends in this district help one and other at work - for instance two join in ploughing as each man has a horse and generally they buy a plough between them. this is also the case when mowing their meadows, also when their turf they join together as one man cuts the turf with a slane the other man wheels them out, in this way they get through their work handy and in good time, and they have not to pay wages.
Francis Mollaghan, Cartron , Drumlish, Co. Longford 23 Sept. 1938
I heard this from my father aged 50 years.
