milk of Dandelion on a wart and it will go. Rub the milk of a poppy on your jaw and it will cure neuralgia. People believe that if you put a cut in a cow's tail and put three pieces of Garlic in the cut and tie a piece of cloth round the tail for twenty four hours it will save the beast from getting black leg.
My mother makes ointment by frying Garlic, Rib grass, Comfrey, the skin of an Elder bush and lard on the pan for about two hours. She lets the juice set. It is a wonderful ointment and we have found it very successful in healing cuts, burns, scalds, swellings and boils.
There are dyes made from leaves and herbs also. The juice of Elder berries will dye clothes. Boiled Ivy leaves, the juice of Robin-run-the-hedge, boiled Heather and Beetroot will also dye clothes.
