    things he fore-told that a gray horse would tumble on the bed of the Shannon. This prophecy came to pass, for on a Sunday morning a gray horse could be seen coming to the Shannon for a drink. A section of the Shannon on which the bridge now stands was dry owing to sinking operations. The horse lay down and tumbled on it, fulfilling the prophecy. This occurred in the year 1847, when the bed of the Shannon as being sunk.
