Natten's Kate was the name of a great race-horse which was born at Thomastown eight miles from Athlone.
Some people put a goat in with flocks of sheep and droves of cattle to keep away the Blackleg which is a disease cattle and sheep get.
When people are selling eggs they put down fourteen eggs mostly; the eggs are to be down for three weeks before hatched out.
Sometimes people bring the hen and eggs and put them in a box beside the fire.
There is a mark put on the eggs to distinguish them
