  1. The name of this town is Athlone. I reside in East Urban area in Saint Mary's parish in the Barony of Brawny. The most common name in the parish is Smith.
The houses are mostly two storey with slated roofs. The houses are more numerous now than in former times. There are not many ruins in the district. The old Abbey opposite the back of the hospital is a ruin.
There are a few old people in the parish. The following people are over seventy:-
    Mrs Trappe
    St. Mary's Tce.
    Miss Lewis
    Irishtown
    Mr Saunders
    Irishtown
    Mrs Bryan
    Irishtown
    They speak English.
Athlone is mentioned in a song called "The Tumble-down shack of Athlone" and in a poem "The Second Siege of Athlone."
The land in the district is boggy and is good for growing potatoes.
