    John Mc Cormack, the worlds famous tenor was born in Athlone of Scottish parents. His father was employed in the Athlone woollen mills and Mc Cormack was trained by Mr Vincent O Brien of Dublin.

    People on the Inishmore island are great oars people some of their names are the O'Keefs, the Nolans and the Ganleys. Those people are always rowing around Lough Ree fishing, and racing each other. They are used to going across the lake late at night and in storms
