    The following townlands comprise Ballinahowen:
    1. Ballinahowen:Baile na hAbhann: Town of the river. The village got its name from a river called the Worm, which flows beside it.

    3. Loughhill: Leamh Choill: Elm Wood
    4. Ballyduff: Baile Dubh: Black Townland: The word black referred to the soil
    5. Clonascra: Cluan (Eiscre): The meadow of the sand ridge. It got its name from the Eisker Riada which runs from Dublin to Galway. The Eisker Riada was the dividing line between Leath Cuinn and Leath Mogha.
    6. Bloomhill: Cluan Creamh): This was the old Irish name which means the meadow of the wild garlic.
    7. Renawn: Réidhnán : Small marsh.
