James Stephens - the celebrated Fenian.
He had a brother who fought in the Boer War and Patrick was always boasting about how well in with Lord Wellington the brother was.
His son, Thomas, was a member of the D.M.P. On one occasion he brought home a comrade police man on holidays to Thomas Oates house in ballinlig bog.
"Where is this house?" said the Dublin man.
"You mind where you're going or you'll step on it" was Bill Oates reply.
Recorded from Mrs Christina Flanagan (aged 67) Moyvoughley, Moate.
Transcribed by a member of our volunteer transcription project.
