    For Burns and Scalds.
When a child or an adult got scalded with boiling water or with hot gruel on the leg, arm, hand, or body, a stuff called "Scum" was wrapped round the burn or scald just like a bandage.
This "Scum" was got on top of bog-holes or in old drains where the water would be steady, and not running water.
This "Scum" was renewed every day and it would cure the scald, and at the same time allow no blisters to rise.
It is a greenish colour, or dark brown on bog-holes.
It is thick and broad, and can be torn into strips when needed.
Another homely cure was to cover the scald with flour, and bind it up.
This excluded the air and prevented blisters from rising.
