    This district has produced its quota of heroes who were renowned in their own district and further afield. A noted wrestler and weight thrower was Sean Mullally of Milltown, Ballynacargy. In the days when wrestling was common throughout the country Sean held the Championship for Westmeath, Longford and the neighbouring Counties. The Champion of Connaught one Simon Ferris Challenged Sean and the Contest was held at Rathduff.
