Ferrar family. Ferrar formerly worked for the Loughreys. The Loughreys were noted craftsmen and were able to do all sorts of intricate work. They made some excellent guns. Peter De Loughrey Mayor of Kilkenny belonged to the same family and was also an excellent craftsman. It was he who made the key with which Pres. De Valera opened the door of Lincoln prison. The only forge work done in the open air is the putting on of iron hoops on wheels. All the forges are near streams as it is necessary to have a plentiful supply of water.
