    In my young days buttermilk was never sold in the townland. When a churning took place some of the poorer neighbours would call at the house. The woman of the house would take the can from the caller and fill it from the churn. The recipient simply said "God bless the cows" and departed. Often a small "print" of butter was put into the can also.
