  1. Local battles
    When Cromwell was around Westmeath he came and set his cannon on Fearbranagh Hill and shot some cannon balls on the Abbey of Multyfarnham. The friars recently discovered a secret tunnel by which it is believed some of the friars escaped Cromwell's wicked designs. This tunnel is still to be seen in the Abbey.
