    It is an old custom not to throw out the ashes on New Year's Day. It is also said that if you are late for Mass on New Year's Day you will be late for Mass the whole year.
    Long ago the people used to make a cross of straws on St. Brigid's Day and put it up in the thatch.
    On Easter Sunday the children go out to the field to have an Easter Cludac. They make tea and boil eggs and the joke is to see who will eat the most eggs.
