    By a snug turf fire sitting with my wife beside me knitting,
    And a little dog and kitten playing tricks upon the floor
    Late I sat engaged in poring the deep mystery exploring
    Of a problem that was boring, boring me that day before
    In a school where noisy urchins I have got to teach 4 score
    Yes indeed and often more

    And the light that from my taper dimly fell on book and paper
    Was obscured by a thick vapour from a pipe my visage bore
    For if moodiness attack you or perplexing thoughts should rack you
