- (continued from previous page)of mud and sprigs, and the roofing timber was made of poles unbereft of their outer skin, which were kept in position by large pegs.In a place now called Springville, there were between one hundred and on hundred and fifty of such cabins, and old people of that vicinity often relate with regard to them that if a man needed a house and having chosen the site, went to the men who constructed them it would be habitable in about two days.There were such a cluster of these cabins here, that when the rush-candles were lighted at night they made a really pretty sight, and earned for the immediate neighbourhood the name of "Lighttown", which still clings to it. THese cabins housed people of many walks in life, some were common labourers, other sawyers, others cobblers, and still others were stone-cutters. The exact neighbourhood in which these houses were, was from what is now called Springville crossroads to a place called the Ballally on the Kells-Oldcastle road.
