    nature of a bird for sometime past. "Maybe the fault lies with my own appetite, not with the dinner" said he to himself. Still the strange taste continued so having taken about a quarter of his share he pushed his plate aside and eat no more.
    The Curate went for a game of cards that evening but he wasn't feeling too well so he went home early. He was feeling much worse next morning but by evening he was almost better.
    Next day he discovered that the chicken cooked was in delicate health suffering from rheumatism and that it had been rubbed with Embrocation and Sloans Liniment a couple of days before it had been killed and it was only when all the remedies had failed to cure it that the P.P. decided that it would be killed for the dinner.
