    (1)
    The midday bell is never heard
    While passing through Bohermeen;
    No evening salutation
    To our sweet Heavenly Queen.
    The workman hears no Angelus
    And his master knows that well,
    He never hears a bell.
    (2)
    How many an humble peasant
    That Dame fortune seems to mock
    Are living in their cottage
    Without either watch or clock.
    They stand to see their neighbours pass
    The time of day to tell,
    Lest they be late for Holy Mass
    Because there is no bell.
