  1. Once upon a time there was a man who lived with his wife and twin children named Michael and Stephen. When these boys were very young their mother died and their father did not know what to do for them. A priest begged their father to marry a woman that lived not far away from them, and at last he consented, and he married her.
    This stepmother was very cruel. They seemed to be very nice people and they had a maid before this second wife came into their house, but the stepmother put her out of the house because she did not like her, and she gave birth to a son and called him Stephen, and then put her stepsons out of the house too.
