  1. Straw plaited chair seats.
    Straw bottomed or sugan chairs were used in her time. The straw was made into a rope and criss-crossed for the seat.
    Sometimes they made the frame of the chair with sticks and covered the whole chair with straw.
    These chairs were very comfortable and lasted for years.
    Straw mats and mattresses.
    Mats for floors and mattresses for beds were also made of straw plaited.
    Hen's nests.
    Plaited straw was also used for hen's nests which were hung up on the walls.
    This was a favourite occupation of men in their spare time.
