  1. 1. In olden days the people used not pay for goods. For instance if a farmer went down to a shop and asked for a pair of boots when he would get them he would tell the shop keeper that he would send him up a barrel of oats.
    2. If a labourer wanted butter, or milk or anything else he would have to do a days work for the farmer. I knew a man and he was a road contractor and wanted stones from a quarry owned by a farmer
