In olden times there wasw a serpent in Scattery Island which is situated in the river Shannon outside Kilrush. The serpent was devouring all the fish he could come up to.So Saint Senan was sent him from that island to Doolough Lake and every place he rested until he came to Doolough lake there is a lake.He has to remain in Doolough for ever and live on one trout and a half a day.
