  1. There were some old schools in this parish long ago. There was an old school in Monagowal. It was not in good repair and at a distance it looked like a cabin. The man who taught in that school was a man named Kennedy.
    There was another old school in Ballyduffmore. It was situated in James Lyons'es land. The ruin of it can still be seen. Many of the people of this parish went to school there long ago. The teacher's name was Golden.
    The teachers did not get any pay but they got their board and lodgings from the people who came to school to them.
