- In the end of the 18th century Fanny O'Dea lived in Lissycasey. She carried on a lucrative business. She lived in a small house.
One wet night as the District Magistrate was passing to Kilrush, the weather was so bad that when he was passing Fanny O'Dea's he decided to stay the night there. Fanny received him as best she could and provided him with poteen and battered eggs. He liked it so well that he spoke of it to all his friends. They in turn asked for the same drink.
